The Whale in Beaver, Utah

We are getting the hang of this retirement thing.  We thought we would rise early and start our trek from Vegas toward Denver bright and early.  Well, Craig woke during the night to a leg cramp and then slept in.  I actually sneaked out of the bedroom and did a bit of putzing around the RV.  We had our coffee, and didn't hit the road until 7:30am.  Slouches.

The Whale has Left Las Vegas.  We'll be back.

We had a planned stop in St. George, NV, back to the place where we purchased new tires.  They needed to replace a valve extension that they had broken on one inside dual tire and didn't have one to replace it with at the time.  We found one in Vegas, so stopped by for them to fix it and they also reimbursed us for the part.

We migrated on down the road and pulled in to get gas and made lunch in Cedar City.  We learned on the way down that the pumps shut you off at $125.00 worth of gas.  Who would have thought you could ever get that much gas in one vehicle?  It's shameful!

I love the Virgin Rive Gorge.  I asked myself the same question that probably came to your mind.... why did they name it the Virgin River? So, it was google to the rescue.

*Virgin River (Washington) originates east of Rockville at the junction of the North and East forks and drains southwest into Lake Mead. the early Spaniards named it El Rio de Sulfureo for the nearby hot sulphur springs.Jedediah Smith named it the Adams River for John Adams, who was president of the United States at that time (this name never held). Some records claim Smith named the river after Thomas Virgin, a member of his 1827 party. Virgin was severely wounded by Indians in this area and was later killed in the fight on the Umpqua River.

The wind started to pick up and the clouds were rolling in so we began to look for a stop for the day.  It's so wonderful not to feel rushed to push hard down the road.

Craig took two naps along the way and that makes for a very Happy Camper!!!!

There's a Mexican restaurant here that we are going to try.  It rains a little and then the sun comes out.  It's supposed to get down to 40 degrees here in Beaver, Utah tonight.  We may have to break out the heater once again.
