We had a few struggles today, but it's all ended well.
Just for something a little different, we woke up to rain this morning. Everyone in dry Utah should be very happy about all of the rain that they have gotten. We have been able to do the things we need to, but Craig has had to do some set up and take down in the rain. That's how we started out the day.
He changed out two roof vents yesterday to help pull odor up through the vent and not get a downdraft when the wind is blowing. They seem to be doing the trick. They are a Siphon type of vent.
We headed on down the road and I looked out the mirror to see that our steps were down. Not a good thing when going down I 15. We had to pull into a big lot to see what could be done. They were stuck in this position:
We thought the motor may have gone out, then we thought maybe the "house" battery was dead, so we fired up the generator to see if that was it. Nope. We turned off and on the rocker switch that makes it work automatically with the door. You open the door... the stairs go out. You close the door.... the stairs go up. You start the engine... the stairs go up. But there they were stuck down. I started searching the Internet to see if I could find a fix. Out of nowhere walks up a guy who pulled up in a truck and he tells Craig that there is a "crack" in the tire. Craig said, "I have a bigger issue at the moment, the stairs won't retract". Craig noticed a contact point on the door and that is what triggers the steps to raise up.
I tapped once on the sensor and the stairs have been working ever since. Thank you, Lord. But, now we were concerned about the tire. It was the kind that happens from tires sitting in the sun too long. The guy that walked up just "happened" to be from a tire store just down the road and he wanted us to come there. I still don't know if he was an angel or devil, but we didn't go right to his place. Something tells us that this would be a nice thing to stick people with a very large bill to replace a bad tire. We made an appointment to go to a tire place tomorrow to see what they think is needed. More than likely, one if not two tires. So, once the delays were resolved we moved on to a small RV Park called, Red Ledge RV in Kanerraville, Utah. We unhooked the Tail and drove off to Zion National Park after we had a little lunch. The rain had stopped and we saw a window of opportunity. What a lovely place.
We have been in cold weather for so long that we felt like turtles shedding our shells when it got warm enough to take off our sweatshirts.
We stopped at a Walmart on our way back to the Whale. It had poured at the RV Park because there were puddles everywhere. We did laundry (Craig did it for me), I fixed dinner and we cleaned up, just as it started to rain again. I think this will probably be the last night of rain and cold temps. Tomorrow we stop in St. George to check on the tires and then go on down to Las Vegas. My brother, Dave, made arrangements for us to park on private property just south of the M Resort and 4 miles from Dad and Mom. I see it's going to be in the 90's there. The plan is to stay put there until near the end of the month.
It will be great to spend Mother's Day with Mom and her 88th Birthday will be on May 29th.
Here's a nice effect for the end of day at the RV Park.
If I had a trumpet, I would play Taps.
Day is done ... Gone the sun...From the lakes .... From the hills...From the sky .. All is well . Safely rest ... God is nigh
Fading light .. Dims the sight ... And a star ... Gems the sky... Gleaming bright .. From afar ... Drawing nigh ... Falls the night ..
Thanks and praise .. For our days.. Neath the sun . Neath the stars ...
Neath the sky ... As we go.. This we know. God is nigh.
