Las Vegas had heavy winds for two days so we were thankful that this morning the winds weren't too strong as we pulled away from Duck Creek RV Park, NV.
We said our good-byes yesterday and got headed down the road around 8 am. We took route 93 through Boulder City, NV.
We passed by the south end of Lake Mead. It's only 40% full and Las Vegas could be facing new water shortages if they don't get enough water from the Colorado's snow pack.
Just passed Lake Mead you begin to come into the area of the Hoover Dam. They have built a huge new bridge that has you by-pass the dam and you really can't see if from the highway. You have to exit to go down to the see the area.
Here's an arial photo of the bridge we drove over, but they have built up the sides, so you can't begin to see that this is what you are driving on. They have trouble with gusty winds through here.
The next major city is Kingman. The temps were cooling off as we climbed in elevation. The Whale did a pretty good job of maintaining speed going over the mountain passes.
In Kingman route 93 intersects with I40 and it goes all the way to North Carolina. Glad we aren't going that far on this trip!
There was a lot of construction on I40, but the traffic was light so we didn't have too much trouble. The wind would blow us around once in awhile.
As we went higher in elevation around the Grand Canyon area, the clouds started rolling in and it looked pretty mean for a while.
In William, AZ you can catch this train that takes you on a tour into the Grand Canyon.
Last year at about this time, we met Tana and family in Sedona and drove up to the Grand Canyon with them for a day.
Snow in Flagstaff. At least on the mountains, We were happy that the roads were dry.
The elevation drops off once you get through Flagstaff. We did have a traffic stand still for about 15 minutes due to an accident up the road. While we were waiting we prayed for the ones involved in the wreck.
We passed through Winslow, AZ to the OK RV Park in Holbrook, AZ. And here we will stay for the night.
Tomorrow morning, Friday the 17th, we will drive on in to Albuquerque, NM. It's about 220 miles. We'll be staying in a park there for three nights and visiting friends and going to a Christian gathering of people we have known over the years.
Blessings,
Kathy
