Holbrook, AZ to Alubquerque, NM

It was a chilly night in Arizona at the OK RV Park.  We put on the electric blanket and had to run the furnace again.  It seems so strange when we were running close to 100 degrees at times while in Wellton, AZ.  The office in the Park had this display of petrified wood.  We weren't far from the Petrified Forest. No time to see it on this trip.  So, we appreciated the nice display.

We had a little more traffic on this leg of the trip.  It was a mostly cloudy ride, but since we were heading east, it made it easy on the eyes not to have to look into the sun all morning.

We were still traveling on I40 and there aren't too many major cities along the route.  We crossed from Arizona into New Mexico and changed to Mountain Time Zone. The desert begins to turn into red rock formations and we drove through The Navajo Nation for many miles.

Craig is starting to feel better after fighting a cold for over a week.  Yesterday he was saying how good Meatloaf sounded, so today when we stopped for lunch and fuel at a Pilot Travel Center we noticed they had a lunch special of Meatloaf.  We carried it out.... to the Motorhome and enjoyed it.

We passed through Gallup, New Mexico.

We crossed over the Continental Divide at about 7300 ft.

We thought we would be driving into moisture of some sort, but it didn't appear to make it to the ground.  It's called Verga, in the west.

Craig took a close up of the red rocks through the screened window.

As we got closer to Albuquerque you could see the Sandia Mountains off in the distance.  They form the eastern border of Albuquerque. The city has an elevation of over 5300'.  We don't think of a desert city being that high.

We only drove about 232 miles today.  That's really a nice day's trip in a large RV when you try to save on gas by going 55 to 60 mph.
We had made a reservation at an RV Park near Albuquerque. We have a Rand McNally GPS for the RV.  We had made reservations last week at this park for three nights.  When we were planning to start the trip this morning, I could not remember the name of the Park we had the reservations for.  I had several Albuquerque addresses in the Campground Group and was trying to jog my memory.  The phone rang.  It was Jim at Enchanted Trails calling to say that the spot we had reserved would not be available because the people in it had a medical emergency.  He offered us another spot with a 30 amp instead of 50 amp and for our trouble, he gave us the Passport America 1/2 price for all three nights instead of two that is advertised. Someone has been praying for us.

There is this vintage Desoto car and travel trailer sitting near the entrance.  Old route 66 goes all through this part of the southwest.

We parked and put out the slides and I tried once again to contact our friend, Charlie Richards.  I have been trying for several days.  He had sent me an email a few weeks ago inviting us to come to a meeting of Christian friends and he hadn't responded to anything since.  I called his son, Dan, and learned that Charlie was in ICU and not doing well with Kidney Failure.  We changed clothes, found where the Lovelace Hospital is located and drove the car about 20 minutes to get there. Dan's family was all there, so we were able to  visit and pray with them and also got to go in for a brief time with Charlie.  He is heavily sedated, but they said he could hear us, so we talked and prayed for him.  Please keep Charlie in your prayers.  He is in need of a miracle.  Charlie's wife, Janis, has dementia and is in a home.  She is unaware that Charlie is sick.  We hope to see her tomorrow and to still make the meetings, too.  We are thankful to the Lord for His timing in getting us here.  We plan to stay until Monday and then take two days to get to Colorado.
We are also praying for some warmer, less windy weather as we continue to head farther north.

Thanks for all of you who read and comment on the blog and pray for us as we travel down the road.  We sense the Lord's direction and nearness. We pray for you, too.

Blessings,
Kathy
