The Age of Aquarium

Today was the last full day to enjoy the grand kids and Galveston.
It was another beautiful sunrise and a very nice day.

We started out the day with a trip to the Moody Garden's Aquarium.

The Rock Fish below seemed to be dead and just hanging in the plant, but that's actually what they do according to the description around this exhibit.

This is a leopard shark.

Sea Turtles

Sea Horses

SHARKS!

They were feeding the fish and using this PVC sticks to keep the sharks away.

The penguins are such a strange bird!  They seem so clumsy out of the water and then so buoyant in the water you wonder how they dive down, at all.

The above was my favorite display.
Carter, Barry, Collin, Kyra, Tana, Cooper and Craig

Below in the Hotel they all stayed in and we so enjoyed.

We went for our last day to the beach.  It was a little cooler, but sunny.  Cooper built this huge sand castle... I helped a bit.

There was a game of sand football, too.

And a nice walk along the beach with Tana and Kyra looking for sea shells.
Three generations.

Kyra was getting down the Skim Board

There was a passing fishing boat today.

We said our good-byes as they will head back to Colorado by air first thing tomorrow and we move up the road to New Braunfels.

Please be praying for our dear friends the Valentines.  Jim had aneurysm surgery today and things are very touch and go for the next several days.

Blessings,
Kathy

Another Day, Another Sand Dollar

Wednesday we slept in a little (getting ready for the time change) and then we made it to the beach for a sunrise walk.

It was another gorgeous day and just too nice not to spend it on the beach.  We pack a lunch and spend as much time as we can relaxing and wave jumping and watching the kids find hermit crabs.
Craig and I took salads today for lunch and then realized we had forgotten to bring folks.  We did a pretty good job with our fingers.

Kyra wearing my hat, looking for Hermit Crabs.

You can see two Oil Platforms in the background.

My view of the world for several hours today.

The kids found lots of Crabs today,
Carter is watching all of the activity.

They built a "Crab Castle" and then returned them to the ocean after counting 156.

We rinsed off the sand and then went for a refreshing swim in the pool and finished off with the hot tub soak.

This biplane flew over so low that when Tana waved, they tipped their wings to wave back.

We see all sorts of interesting things while we are on the beach.

We had a nice dinner together in the hotel room tonight and then we came back to the RV.  There's a front blowing through, but we haven't had any rain. It may cool off a few degrees.  Tomorrow will be our last full day here before we all head out on Friday morning.
Tana and family drive back to the Houston Airport and then fly on to Denver.  Craig and I will move up to New Braunfels (just  little north of San Antonio) for two days to visit with good friends.

Blessings,
Kathy

A Very Crabby Day

We had another wonderful day on the beach today.
The sun rose and got us off to the right start.

Beach bums.

Beach flower.  Not sure what it's called.
We walked along a row of houses and this one says, "Kathie's House" on the front.  The roses were so pretty.

The kids entertained themselves on the beach and in the water.  They discovered when they pick up shells out in the water, they have sand crabs inside.

They did this for hours today and had so much fun.  We also fit in some volleyball, football and wave jumping.

This seagull was holding his wings down like a protective turkey would do. At first we thought he had a broken wing and then noticed it was both wings.  Maybe it was courting the other bird. Maybe it was a sympathy move to get some of our lunch.  Anyway, he flew away with no issues.

The kids made this habitat to watch the sand crabs and other creatures they were finding.  They turned them all loose so I could have my cake pan back.  It took a little extra cleaning. This could actually be a Mud Cake.... with seafood.

We enjoyed the best of both living arrangements today.  After the beach time, we enjoyed the nice pool and hot tub at their Hotel.

It's consider "off season" here and we nearly had the place to ourselves.  It's a very nice place they are staying in.

This is our lovely grand daughter, Kyra.  She is 13.

After enjoying a long, long, long hot shower at the hotel, we came back and cooked burgers on the charcoal burner at the State Park.
We went for a nice long walk just as the sun was setting.

Collin walked out ahead of us the whole way and missed being in a couple of pictures.

We all got back to the campground for a bonfire and S'mores with Chocolate Chip cookies in place of Graham Crackers... our new favorite.... and of coarse, it was made better with the flat marshmallows that Tana found at the store.

As the fire was burning down, the bugs found us and we made a retreat into the "large" family room in the RV to play Catch Phrase.  The boy's team beat the girl's team.

Could we have fit more into this day?  We probably could have if we hadn't just enjoyed all of that time on the beach.  An all around enjoyable day.

Love and Blessings,
Kathy
