We took a drive up to the well known area of Slide Rock today. It's just up the road from Sedona. We started out this morning so we could beat some of the crowds. It's spring break time in AZ.
The place is so awesome and we are excited to get to let some of our grand kids experience it at the end of March.
Just as you come into Sedona, your attention is captured by these red rocks.
Slide Rock is in the State Park. It was once an apple orchid and they are still there. Tim, I took these tractor pictures just for you.
Manure spreader
Once you are in the park, you can walk along a high trail or navigate the rocks and river to stay close to the Oak Creek.
It was a bit cool at 10am, but warmed up pretty quickly.
The waters were crystal clear and the ducks were frisky.
Craig checking out the high places.
You don't want to know how cold the water was. But, there were people in the water. I'm sure any kid would just HAVE to go down the slide.
A small fall.
The river is very deep in some places.
This is the place where Slide Rock gets it's name. I have a video that I took of a kid that went down this, but I got it going so late and the sun was glaring, so I only got part of his slide in the picture. Watch toward the top.
Here's some creek front property that once was a cabin.
Mr. Pendley that once owned this land and planted the apples orchards came to this spot and tapped into the water to gravity feed his groves.
We also drove to some of the trail heads for hikes that we'll be wanting to take. By 1pm, the road coming in to town from I17 was backed up.
What a beautiful place and day.
Blessings,
Kathy
