Over Hill Over Dale.....

We are still parked at Canyon Lake.  We have made friends with Ronnie and Caroline Taylor from Indiana.  They took us to Tortilla Flat for lunch today.  The food was great and the atmosphere was very unique.  We had some rain during the night, so it wasn't as busy as it normally would be on a Saturday.

It's a very rustic place... if you can't tell by looking at it.  Ha!

At one time this was a school house and is now a Museum with tales of the Lost Dutchman Mine.

The walls are lined with signed dollar bills from customers.  In the next home that we buy, I will take anything you send and line my pockets... I mean walls.

The bar stools are saddles.

I found sister Sally in the ladies' room.

After a wonderful lunch, Ron wanted to take us on down the road toward the Roosevelt Dam to show us where 15 years ago they ended up driving a 30' camper down the road.  Once you start on this dirt road, there aren't any places to turn around a large vehicle.  We were riding in his jeep just trying to imagine taking the Whale down this road. The above picture shows the road we were going down on.

It rained off and on during the day, but it was dry during the two hour drive down and back on a dirt, washed out road.

Ron said the road was much improved since the time they drove down.  It even had tin guard rails.

Caroline used to teach school and she is very well versed in the flora of the desert.  This is a Ocotillo in bloom.

The Century Plants were used by the Indians for sewing.  The tips of the plant could be used as needles and the leafs had long strands of fiber that could be used as thread.  She wanted to take one back with her, so Craig and Ron went to harvest a dead one for her.

We ended the evening with a Chili supper.  Four from Indiana and two Alaskans.  We had a great pot luck and really enjoyed being in the large motor home for an evening.

Dala and Caroline were listening to a story Craig was telling while Ron and Mike were talking hunting and flying.  This is the inside of their Motor Home.  You could get camper envy being in there.

It took all night for the photos to upload on our slow internet connection (Craig's phone), so I'll end with the sunrise again this morning.  It poured most of the night, but today will be a good last full day here at Canyon Lake.

We saw some of the news reports last night about all of the flooding and bad weather.  We are praying for everyone that is not waking up to sunshine this morning.

Love and blessings,
Kathy
