Craig's brother, Jim will be glad to hear that we have gotten life down to a one event a day schedule. At least some days. Sat. we went to a local fund raising event called, "Pioneer Day". I didn't see any pioneers, but we did see an Indian Dance Group.
This performance was followed by a group of older women from a Belly Dance Club. I did not take a picture of that and I'm still trying to get that image out of my head.
They had many food booths and we selected BBQ beef and chased it with this Fudge Funnel cake.
It was all for a charitable cause.
Sunday was church and then getting ready for the Super Bowl Game. Our TV reception isn't very good in the spot the Whale is parked, so we went up to the Rec Hall. We were very out numbered by the Sea Hawk's fans and we were pretty quiet through that whole mess of a game. That's all I'm gonna say about that.
Monday was a relaxing day. We remembered there was a pool room and then I did my best to try to remember how to play. Craig was still pretty good, but he scratched all three games... so..
We worked up such an appetite with that one event day that we decided to cook up a steak on our little grill.
Then, there was Tuesday (today). We had heard from my cousin, Deb, and a couple of other people that we should take the tour of the Yuma Prison and Museum. If prison was like this today, they could shorten the sentence because no one would want to return to a place like this. The Colorado River was once a huge force running through old Yuma, but now it's all controlled by dams and canals. The Prison was built where the Colorado and Gila Rivers meet.
It's a very beautiful Park and well cared for. The prison was open from 1876 - 1909
It was built to hold 300+ prisoners, but at one time it held over 800. This cell is off the exercise yard and the walls have been stuccoed, so it didn't look bad. The prisoners built the place and it was basically rock and iron. Can't imagine how they survived the hot days and cold nights.
From the guard tower, you can see the bridge over the Colorado river. Trains still run on this.
During the Dust Bowl of the 30's people were traveling to CA. As they came to the CA border, they were checked for a letter saying they had a job ready for them and if they didn't have one, they weren't allowed to cross the border. Many of those homeless people stayed in this vacated prison for several years.
This was a very well restored Caitlin gun, I believe 45 caliber. Not sure if they had it in the guard tower or somewhere else.
Once the tour was over, we enjoyed our regained freedom with a visit to In & Out Burger.
The parking lot was full, but we were able to walk right up and order. I had a chance to help a couple from Switzerland find how to get water from the fountain drinks. We had a nice little chat and they tested my German a bit. It's been a long time.
We wrapped up the day with some grocery shopping and then headed back to the Whale. Today did not qualify as a, "One Event" day. There's nothing on the schedule for tomorrow, though.
