Canyon Lake by Pontoon Boat

What a fun day of exploring today.
It's been warm and sunny, but there is a change in the air today and it was a bit overcast and windy at times.

The RV's are all lined up in a row and then we have Ma and Pa Mallard Duck that come by twice a day to see if there's anything to be eaten.  If you feed them, hundreds of other birds show up, so you have to be very careful.

Sunrise happened again today!

I wonder if these are the same Coots from Texas?

Wray and Dianne Martin from Cananda

Kathy and Craig

Captain Paul and wife Susie Nowell who live locally and were wonderful hosts for the boat trip.

This couple is from near Indianapolis and we have enjoyed getting to know them. Ron and Caroline Taylor from North Salem, Indiana.

There is a paddle boat tour that goes out 3 times a day called,
Dolly

We took a break eight miles into the Canyon.

This was an interesting balancing act and I wonder what would come jumping out at me as I got down to shoot this.

The covered Marina with many house boats.

The RV next to us is owned by Mike and Dala Conner and they are from Wasilla, Alaska.  She went to school with Sarah Palin and played basketball with her.  They have wonderful stories of hunting and cold weather living.

We ended the night with a camp fire and some life story telling.  What a great day!!!

I do believe we will sleep good tonight.

Blessings,
Kathy

Wednesday Wake Up

This was the sunrising to great us this morning.

I'm not sure what kind of tree this is, but it had very soft yellow flowers.
We spent the morning visiting with our new neighbors and then decided to take the two mile drive into Tortilla Flat to see what was there.  It's a tourist trap and not my kind of place.  Maybe we'll go back later in the day when things have settled down on another day.  Craig ran into the little store to see if they had any butter, which they did not, so we turned around and headed back to the camp.

This is Canyon Lake coming from Tortilla Flat

Here's the Whale all tucked in and happy by the water.

We came up to the little Marina Office to use their WiFi and I must say that I've been able to post all of these last three posts in a split second compared to using the Internet that we have right now in the RV.

Happy Trails.,
Kathy

Fix and Repair and Cards and Eats

It was a short, but winding drive from Mesa to Canyon Lake.  We stopped to get gas and filled up the propane.  Midge and Ray drove up Monday afternoon to see what the lake camp sight looked like.  And it was good to see them again.

We noticed a slight drip from the hot water heater drain plug when we were ready to leave Mesa, but decided to wait until we got to Canyon Lake to fix it.  This is what the piece looked like after we got the two parts out.  The cap was actually broken off from the threaded part.  Craig used a metal file as an "easy out" to get the broken part out without messing up the metal threads of the heater.

The plug is supposed to be one part like this.  Thankfully, we had a couple of extra 1/2" plastic plugs and some Teflon tape.  So once the Whale's spout was plugged up again, we refilled the tank, turn it on and all is good.

This is the outside door into the water heater and the plug is over on the left and hard to get to around the gas line.  We are thankful that the project ended well and the drip is now dry.

Craig celebrated by a short nap in the shade looking at the lake... with his eyes closed.  I set the table and got ready for a visit from my cousin, Jan and Stacy.

Stacy and Jan used to come up here during the hot AZ summers to relax and cool off with a swim in the lake.  They are the ones who told us about the lake.  I didn't think many people knew it was here, but there are all kinds of tourists that come to the Marina and take a paddle boat ride around the lake.

We relaxed and told stories of old before firing up the grill.

We played a game or two of Push.

Jan brought salad, potatoes and shrimp and we only supplied the beef and asparagus and we had a very nice meal.
We plan to go back to Jan's and park at her place and finish our cupboard hanging project for Monday night until Wed. And then, it will be time to head up north to Cottonwood near Sedona.

We have met several of the other campers and it's been very interesting.  Our neighbors were German and had this Motorhome shipped over from Germany and are touring the States for 16 months.

There are Canadians here and also new neighbors came in last night from Alaska.  We also met some local people who bring up their RV and a very nice pontoon boat.  They are taking us out for a "3 Hour Tour" tomorrow if the weather permits.  It's beautiful today.

There's also a very nice couple here from Indiana, just north of Indy.

The view is gorgeous, the weather and company have been great and we are enjoying the water!!

Gone to the Dogs

Lots to blog about tonight, but I have pretty slow internet, so we'll have to play this by ear and maybe load pictures another time.
While in Val Vista in Mesa, AZ we watched dogs for Midge and Ray while they went to see the Spurs play.  We had a great night with their two dogs and enjoyed stretching out in their 5th Wheel RV.

Niki and Abbey did great with Uncle Craig and Aunt Kathy.

Very nice 5th Wheel!

This is the forward living area with a recliner that was nice to sit in.  The dogs have it made!!!

A Vegetarian Dog

We even got in a few hands of Pinnacle the night they cooked a wonderful pork roast for us.

This RV Park was more like a resort.  We had a nice lunch of Taco Salads.  What a sweet couple Ray and Midge are!!  We'll miss them.

So many pretty flower gardens.

We left Val Vista yesterday and drove a short distance to Canyon Lake.

The Whale is closer to the water than it has been for a long time.  Wishing it would convert to a house boat.

There is a very large Marina here and it's all on the Salt River.

They have boat tours that we'll look into.  Yesterday, after we set up camp, Midge and Ray came up to see us.  It's a pretty winding road through the Superstition Mountains that none of us were expecting.  I'll post pictures of the drive once I have faster internet for uploading pictures.
This afternoon my cousin, Jan and Stacy and coming up for the afternoon and we'll do some grilling and jawin'.

Have a wonderful day!!!
