We had a good but busy week in Las Vegas with Mom. Two of our kids and five of the grand kids will be coming to Vegas for Christmas week. So, we needed to do a few things to prepare for that. I had already posted that we baked cookies. We made Cut outs, peanut butter cookies, Thumbprints, Cranberry Oatmeal cookies and Chocolate Chip cookies. Everything went well until we got to the chocolate chips.
We have a tradition of making my Grandmother's Butterscotch cutout cookies and then decorating them.
The dough looked normal as we followed the package recipe for the chocolate chips, but after two batches, we never really figured out what the issue was. They came out flat and somewhat overdone. Maybe we just should have eaten them in their doughier form.
Craig took care of both issues by applying chocolate frosting to them. They taste good, so they can still be eaten.
We got down the Christmas decorations, turned on the Christmas music and decorated one day.
On Thanksgiving Eve, Ray and Midge came over to play some cards and have dessert and Minerva also joined us. Minerva just lost her husband, so we were happy that she came to visit with us.
We are cooking for Christmas, so we decided to go out for Thanksgiving. We had the choice of a Turkey or Beef dinner and it was all very good!
I told the story on Facebook of Mom making a shawl for my Oct. Birthday. She sent it to Colorado, but the post offices's mailing label got stuck to another package and they only had the return address. So, I had to wait until we went to Las Vegas to get my handmade shawl. It's very nice and I was so glad that it didn't get lost in the mail. The weather has been cool enough here, that I'll probably wear it this winter.
We left Vegas at the first sign of daylight. It takes about five hours to drive the 300+ miles back to the RV that has been in our spot at Tier Drop RV Park in Wellton, Arizona.
The wind was at our tail and the traffic was very light, so it was a pleasant drive back.
We went down into California for a short time and stayed right along the path of the Colorado River.
We drove Highway 95 south and until it intersects with route 40 east and then back on 95 through Havasu and Parker, AZ.
Below are a few pictures of the Lake Havasu area. The Colorado River looked so pretty and blue today.
It's surprising to see the mountains in the desert. It makes me think of all the Western Movies that we used to watch.
We traveled through Quartsite and just as you get close to Yuma, you can take the back country roads through the fields into Wellton.
We unloaded the car and put the awning and sunshade back out, caught up with friends that live here in the Park, made a few phone calls and now with the hour time change and the long day, I'm about ready for bed. Oh wait, it's only 8:30 pm.
I pray that you were able to enjoy your THANKSgiving and that you don't feel stressed about the Holiday Season and the coming Christmas Celebration. I know it takes a conscious effort to be at peace, but that's what the Lord brought to us.....
