Aurora, CO to Las Vegas, New Mexico

We spent our last night in Colorado with family.  Carter and Collin have Birthdays this month and we celebrated a bit early with some ice cream pies and the Broncos game.

We left our spot in Cherry Creek around 8:30am and drove 324 miles to Las Vegas, New Mexico, today.  The weather and roads were good and traffic was thin for most of the way.
We woke up to pretty sky.

The Rocky Mountains were snow capped and gave us a grand farewell.

In the northwest you can see the Mountains that form the Rocky Mountain National Park.  Straight west of Cherry Creek is Mount Evans.

We drove south down I25 through Colorado Springs.  We always think of friends that we would like to stop and visit, but the weather forecast has snow and wind in the near future and we wanted to try to get ahead of them.  The timing seemed right for "getting out of Dodge".

Pike's Peak

Sangre de Christo (Blood of Christ) mountain range.

We stopped at a nice rest stop for some lunch.

Just south of Trinidad, we entered the Raton Pass.  It's a pretty steep climb, but nothing like the four hour drive on I70 through the Rockies.

You drop out of the pass and enter into the flat lands of New Mexico.  It's quite a contrast.

We are stopped for the night in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  It's a small park, but the price was right and we were ready to get off the road.

We'll continue down I25 tomorrow through Sante Fe and Albuquerque and stop somewhere around Las Cruses.

Blessings,
Kathy
