We enjoyed our time at Circle the Wagons RV Park in La Veta.
The trees were just beginning to get leaves. There's a stream just on the other side of the parking spots.
This is the office/home with a rec center to the left.
The town of La Veta has a charm all of it's own. But most of the side streets are sand.
I made a new friend while touring the town.
Nice clean park and a large place, too.
We saw these two steaks while we were out for a walk.
We actually had a night that wasn't raining and caught a
part of the sunset.
We drove over La Veta pass. The old Whale struggled with the elevation of 9300+, but we made it. The wind was blowing in our face all of the way on Hwy 160.
Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range and the
Great Sand Dunes
There used to be beautiful lakes in the San Luis State Park, but the Valley has gone through a drought and the water now runs down this canal to city in New Mexico.
The Camp Host spot is at a high point in the park. There are about 51 camping spots and tonight, we are the only ones here. It's a fairly barren area and the campsites have electric and some water, but there's only a dump station for "black" water.
This is the view from our RV space. You can see the dry lake bed and the Blanco Mountain behind. The Sand Dunes Park is at the base and this park is used as an overflow area for the campground over there. It's not a very popular camping site unless you really like to be isolated.
This is our patio and view.
We have committed to stay here through Memorial Weekend. The park has full reservation list starting on Friday. We are the only ones here tonight and the Ranger and his wife live above the Office. They are a nice couple and are SO glad they have someone here to help them.
We don't have much Internet or phone service, but we do have a MiFi with Verizon that we will have to pay for the extra gigs for me to continue blogging. I may not do one for a few days.
I also just saw that we could have more rain/snow Monday night into Tuesday.
Blessings,
Kathy
