The Dakotas

We left Minnesota July 2nd and passed through North Dakota for a short time

We were headed south on I29 and passed into South Dakota.  So much farm land and rich soil.

It's always interesting to see where we will stop for the night.  We have a program and a book we look through, we ran across a jewel in Summit, South Dakota, County Line Campground.  It was clean and well kept and the owners were a delight.

The owner, Larry made this license plate.  He is also a musician and an artist.  We were invited to participate in a pick and sing-a-long night in the office.

We passed through a small town and took a picture of this bird. Nothing more to say about that.

We moved down I90 looking for a place to stay for two nights to get off the road over the 4th Weekend.  Hills RV Park was the spot. Plankinton is a very small community, but they had a very nice memorial to the armed services.  We rested and caught up on a few things, but stayed pretty close to home.  Some of the other campers put on a fireworks display for us and we were content with that.

The next stop was Chamberlain/Oacoma, South Dakota.  The Missouri River runs through the area and it's a big tourist attraction.  We were concerned that everything would be booked up, but we were pleasantly surprised to find very little traffic and plenty of campgrounds to stay in.

We had a reservation at the Oasis RV Park, but we arrived a bit early to check in, so we parked with our "people" across the street from Al's Oasis were we had a nice breakfast.

It was pretty quiet when we pulled in, but by late evening the park was full.

We disconnected the Honda and decided to look around the area.  We drove back across the river and stopped at the Sioux Indian Cultural Museum.  It was interesting and educational.

Peeky TeePee

A Golden Eagle was on display.  When I saw this, I realized that we saw these in Minnesota, but mistook them for hawks.

The weather was very warm, but overcast so we drove 21 miles up the river to see the Big Bend Dam

We saw this very shiny black bird with a very bright yellow underbelly.  Maybe someone can tell me what it is.

Those "Canadians" are everywhere.  We see these pelicans all across the country.
Cedar Shores is another resort/marina/campground on the river.

This morning we packed up once again and drove 200 miles toward the Black Hills in Rapid City, South Dakota.
We saw miles and miles of harvested and bailed hay.  It seems that rolling is the preferred method.

The drive was through rolling hills and then in the distance we began to see the Black Hills area.

We are one spot for tonight and then we move to another tomorrow, but then we hope to stay put for the rest of a week and see the sights of the Black Hills.
We turned on the local TV station in time to find some weather warnings.  We were thankful that it passed over with just some rain.

The change from Central Time to Mountain Time allowed us to relive an hour of our day today.  That doesn't happen too often, thankfully.
The night painter was at work again tonight.  I guess we will be getting back into those Western Sky Sunsets.

Our work camping job won't begin in Aurora, Colorado until the 23rd.  We just found that out today, so we will have plenty of time to explore before heading southwest.

Blessings,
Kathy
