Wickieup!

Wickieup (not giddy-up) is actually a town we drove through yesterday as we traveled from Mom's in Las Vegas down toward Phoenix. Mom is doing great and we enjoyed our time with her.

We drove past Lake Mead and over the new bridge past Hoover Dam.

The Colorado River

The traffic came to a stand still just out of Vegas and we couldn't tell what was going on.  There were lights flashing and then we saw a Helicopter take off and go right over our heads.  It didn't look like an accident, but maybe a hiker that got into trouble or some kind of medical emergency.  We prayed that everyone would be OK as they reopened the road and we drove on after just a few minutes of waiting.

The Taylors and Robinson's were camping in Wickenburg for the big Rodeo that was in town.  They had a "smorgasbord" of food for us for lunch.  We hope to meet up with them again in March.  It was fun to be able to visit with them for a while and catch up on their camping stories and then we headed on down the road to Mesa, AZ.

We drove across the north side of Phoenix near Sun City.  We lived in Glendale, AZ while Craig was still stationed in the USAF at Luke AFB and it's amazing to me how the area has grown!

We drove past the stadium where this year's Super Bowl was held.  The traffic got a little busy going around here and I was glad that we were in the car and not in the Motorhome!

Midge and Ray are friends with us and with Mom and they are spending a month in Mesa at a nice park.  We stopped in to visit with them since we didn't get to see them in Las Vegas.  We had a great visit and some goodie snacks and headed on down the road to complete the loop back to Wellton, AZ and Tier Drop RV Park where we'll be until March 7th.

We drove into the sunset and on into dark as we traveled just at 500 miles for the day.

It's always fun to "go home", even if it is one on wheels.

Blessings,
Kathy

Time with Mom

We drove up Hwy 95 from Yuma to Las Vegas last Monday.  It's about a Five hour drive.  We took our time and it was a beautifully sunny and warm day, so we stopped in the Parker/Havasu Lake area and took a few pictures and enjoyed the blue Colorado River.

Sheila sent us on our trip with some fresh picked oranges from her tree and we have been enjoying them here at Mom's.

Mom is in good health and still walks most days and she still enjoys dressing up and going out.
We did some shopping with Mom and have done a few projects for her and Thursday we all went to the Dennis Bono Show at the South Point Casino and enjoyed ourselves.
Mom always looks pretty sharp for someone close to 90!  Actually, she looks great for someone even half her age!

Mom spends most Thursdays with her group of friends watching the free Dennis Bono Show who has many guests that sing and entertain.  Afterward, they gather for snacks and visiting.
Craig, Minerva, Frank, Carol, Marquerette and Marcie.

She has had this Philodendron for several years and it's very happy looking! and so are we.

I was driving her car on Christmas Eve when a woman darted out in front of us in her car and put a pretty good dent on the bumper of Mom's Grand Marquis.  We have been battling with the woman's insurance company and finally they decided it was her fault and sent us a check to cover the repairs

We picked up the car today and were very happy with the job that Gerber Collision did for us.

We celebrated Valentine's Day a day early to beat the crowds. We had their Dinner for Two and split it three ways.  It was a very good!!

The current plan is to head back toward Tier Drop on Sunday with a stop by Mesa, AZ to visit with Midge and Ray for a couple of hours.

Hope none of you live in Boston!

Blessings,
Kathy

Wellton, Arizona Pioneer Day

.
The bed of African Daisies just keeps getting better and better.
This is one of two sides of the Rec Center that is lined with them.

We try to get out for a long walk everyday and this is Craig and Jim walking ahead of Sheila and I.

We have enjoyed the full moon of this past week, too.

The sunny, warm days have made it fun to be outdoors.

The fields are in full array, too.

Take a bunch of retired people and tell them there is going to be a parade and they will step up to make it fun.  Wellton is a small town, with a lot of "snow birds".

The neighbors across from us have this VW Bug that they fixed up for the parade.  The theme was Fun in the Sun.

Gary and Betty are the owner's of the Love Bug.

We took the back roads under the railroad tracks when we returned from the parade.  Pretty small and not very well decorated.

Here are just a few of the entries in the Pioneer Day Parade.

They were throwing candy from most of the cars.  We decided they just wanted to see if a bunch of older people would get out of their chairs and if so, could they bend over to pick up the candy.

Tomorrow, Feb 9th we drive the CR-V up to Las Vegas to spend a week with Mom.  We have an appointment to get the New Year's Eve dent taken out of Mom's car.

Blessings,
Kathy
