Did Someone Say, "Fishing"?

My garden continues to recover from Colorado Mule Deer eating them and from some frost bite here in Indiana.

Our Grandson, Ty, was in a Band Concert.  He plays French Horn, but is switching to drums.  They all did a great job and introduced all of the graduating Seniors.

We are still helping work for our camping spot.  We waited until the hottest day of the spring to prime and paint the new foyer entrance to the gym.

We have also been helping Jeff with the project of remodeling a few old classrooms to be used as offices.  Jeff is taping and floating out the drywall that we hung.

Our oldest son, Todd, has been busy working and also fixing up a rental property for his friend.  We had some time to go over and help with a couple of things.

The weather has finally turned around to the good.  We took a few pictures around our old home town.

Craig spent his early years in the downstairs portion of this house on the corner of South and East Street.  His Uncle Bud and Aunt Catherine also lived here for many years. Craig and I built this gazebo between Bud's home and the house where Craig's parents lived in the early 1980's.

The above home was built by Craig's great great grandfather and his Grandmother and Grandfather lived in the home and then his parents.  We also lived in the home for short periods of time when we were between moves.

Crown Point is known for a few things.  One is that you could quickly get a marriage license and so many people from Chicago would drive the 45 miles just for that.  The second is this grand old Courthouse.  A new county courthouse was built out north of town and this was restored by the town's people and is used for many things to this day. If you know the story of John Dillinger escaping from jail with a bar of soap that he fashioned into a gun, this also happened in the Crown Point Jail.

Jeff's family built a new home and they have this pond right out of their back door.  We have seen many people fishing it, but haven't really seen too many fish actually caught.

Jeff mowed a path around on his side and we did a little fishing without any success one night last week.

This past Sunday we attended church and they were teaching the young kids about Memorial Day and Veterans.  They took time out to honor the Vets. Craig spent 11 years in the USAF.

We needed to replace the thermocoupler on the refrigerator.  It runs on AC or Propane.  Jeff helped us out before they headed out to the beach on Lake Michigan for the Holiday.

Late on Monday, we met back at Jeff's pond to see if we could catch any of the fish we had seen working in the water.  It was a perfect evening.

Craig said that he had something on his line and we could tell it was something very nice.  The large mouth bass weighed in at 4 lbs, 1 oz.  That made the wait well worth it!

Jeff gets invited to fish other people's ponds and sometimes we get in on the invite.  Below is a pond in Crete, IL.  We drove over their on Tuesday morning since we all had an extra day off work.  

As we were leaving, we ran across this turtle laying eggs.

We caught a few small fish, but it was hard to fish with the weeds, so we drove to another friends pond south of Crown Point.

Jeff caught a frog at the same time that Craig caught a bass.

I was able to pull in a few myself.

We got back to the RV in time to pack things up and go down to another friend's who said he would be able to inspect the brakes on the RV.  He said that everything looks great.  We stopped and filled up the gas tank and the propane tank and re-parked it our spot on the church property just as the weather changed and it began to rain a bit.
We have made some plans to drive on up to Minnesota to fish and see my older brother and his wife.  We have reservations there beginning on June 20th.  We may stay two to three weeks.  I guess you can tell that we enjoy fishing.  Our old fishing spot was booked up, so we will be trying out a new place on Big Sand Lake.
