Indiana Beach on Lake Shafer

We are heading a little farther north avoiding major rain storms.  We had a big storm last night in North Salem with lots of rain and lightening.  We were thankful to be safe off the road.

This morning we headed to Monticello and the Indiana Beach RV Resort.  I used to come to Lake Shafer as a child with my family and I think we brought the kids here one time while we lived in Crown Point.  This place has changed so much that I hardly recognized it.  They seem to be trying to make improvements, but it reminds me of a place of "days gone by".

It is a very large campground with lots to do close by for people with kids and many people seem to live here for the season.

We took a drive to see the area since it had been so long since I was here.

This is called the Twin Lakes Area.  Both Lake Shafer and Lake Freeman are made from the Tippecanoe River.

 We went for a walk past the water slide, pool and mini golf coarse. And then just a short walk across the road down to Indiana Beach.

The below picture is Lake Shafer.  The beach and lake pool were closed due to all of the high murky water from the rains.

They had some old photos that I took pictures of.  This is more how I remember Indiana Beach.

We will stay here until Tuesday morning and then head farther north to hopefully get a window seal fixed on the motorhome and then spend time with family and friends for a month.

Good Friends, Good Food, Good Camping

We have been parked at the Taylor Farm since Thursday.  We so enjoy this family and their beautiful property.

We met Carolyn's brother and sister-in-law while camping in Arizona this past winter.  They drove up from Spencer so we could all visit.  It's nice to have a Motorhome large enough for us all to sit in and relax.

Roy and Julie had their 5th Wheel here on the property because they have some flooding on the road to get back into their home. They spent the night, too.

One issue that we have had for the past few miles is that when we put the gear shift lever into PARK it blows the fuse for the dash gauges.  We took apart the steering column and found a wire that was pinched and had a bare spot.  We taped it and put it all back together, just to have it happen again.  We took it apart again and moved around some wires and put it back together.  We'll test it tomorrow when we head down the road.  Sure praying that it's fixed.

Ron has horses in a beautiful barn and pasture.

There's a creek that runs through their property and they have a picnic area here, but the high waters have caused the trees to fall inward.

The rain has everything in full bloom and looking it's best.

This is a very clever rocking chair.

The sun actually came out today and Carolyn helped me wash a little road grime off the Motorhome.

Ron drove us over to Rockville to take us to a unique place for lunch and then to an auction.

This metal bike is displayed outside of the Hog Pit Saloon.

We had lunch on Hog Slop Chips.

The Rockville Courthouse is being renovated.

 The auction had quite a variety of animals ready to be sold.

Jeff, we looked for one with a curly tail.

On the way home we took a drive through this covered bridge.

Thanks for having us for these past few days, Ron and Carolyn.  You are fun to be with and we always enjoy our time with you.

Back Home Again in Indiana

We crossed over the swollen Wabash River today and back into our home State of Indiana.  You just can't help but to break into that famous song, "Back Home Again in Indiana".

We turned north and drove through Terre Haute which in the home of Indiana State University.  Craig and I attended Indiana University near Bloomington. This part of Indiana is on eastern time, so we lost another hour.  We will get it back once we get up to the northwest corner of the State.  Crown Point stays on Central time.  It's confusing, I know.

We found a nice campground near Bloomingdale.  We only drove 143 miles today and it rained on us the entire time.  It let up a bit just as we pulled in to Peaceful Waters Campground that also has an Old Goat Trading Post.

We had some lunch and Craig remembered that we had two frozen lemon squares that Mom had made for us.  Wow!  They were SO good.  Thanks, Mom!

Not "knee high by the 4th of July", but man high by the 8th.  I hope it will dry out in time for harvest.

We are just a few miles down Old 41 from Turkey Run State Park.  This place is full for the Covered Bridge Festival, but today, not so much.  It's really a beautiful piece of property with a nice pond.

Someone has great talent with making carving out of old tree stumps.

Dave and Kathy own the place and Dave started showing us pictures of very large bass that were caught in the pond.  When Craig heard one was 8 lb 8 oz, he decided to wet a line.

I did some fishing, too, but we didn't catch anything.  The rain has the pond pretty stirred up.

Tomorrow we drive down the road a few miles to visit with Ron and Carolyn.  We met them nearly two years ago in a campground in Arizona.  They live in North Salem, Indiana.  We so look forward to seeing them and catching up on family happenings.
